Grindelia is also known as Gumweed. It is a resinous plant that has many uses. Native Americans made a tea of the tops and flowers to treat respiratory conditions, such as colds, whooping cough, tuberculosis and asthma. A tea of the flowers is useful for stomachache, colic, indigestion, kidney pain and cystitis. A poultice made from the plant tops was used on cuts, sores, swellings and broken bones. A wash of leaf tea was used on skin conditions,itching and poison ivy. *Large doses may cause kidney or gastric irritation.
